Ewing campaign heads to Downing Street

The fight to save Ewing School stepped up a gear today when Lib Dem MP John Leech joined pupils and parents from the school at 10 Downing Street as they presented a petition against the council's closure plans.

Prior to handing in the 10,000 signature-strong petition, Mr. Leech welcomed the group to Parliament, where he will present a copy of the petition later this evening.

John Leech said:

"The council needs to sit up and take note; they need to listen to the pupils and parents of Ewing and the 10,000-plus people who have signed the petition and realise just how unpopular their closure plans are. Everyone associated with the school is crying out for these plans to be scrapped and it's about time council bosses started listening to them rather than dictating from afar."

"Ewing is fabulous school, which offers its pupils an appropriate and caring learning environment. To close it in the face of such strong opposition from all those most closely associated with the school would be an outrageous decision and it would show just how detached council bosses are from the reality on the ground."
