Make TV Licences free for all pensioners - Leech

12.00.00am GMT Wed 24th Dec 2008

John Leech MP has taken steps in Parliament to extend free television licences to all pensioners by putting down an Early Day Motion to put pressure on the government. At present only pensioners aged 75 or over are eligible for to receive a free TV licence. John Leech MP said, "Given the ever-rising number of pensioners who are finding themselves in fuel poverty and struggling to pay increasing bills, it seems obvious to me that free TV licensing is a benefit that should be extended to all pensioners."

The Parliamentary motion has received cross-party support, but as yet no Manchester Labour MPs have supported the proposals.
