Mary was elected in 2010, when she gained the Northenden seat from Labour. Mary and her family first moved to Northenden in 1994. She worked as a research scientist, before becoming a Manchester secondary school teacher and now tutors from home. Mary plays an active role in the local community as an executive committee member of Northenden Civic Society and a founder member of the 'Friends of Northenden Riverside Park committee'. Mary has campaigned for her community on better youth provision, better independent shops, a Parish Council, improved parking and road safety. Mary received a doctorate in Biology in 1993 from University of Manchester and takes a close interest in education and green issues. She works with Ward Councillor Martin Eakins as a member of the successful Lib Dem team.
