Manchester Liberal Democrat Leader Councillor Simon Ashley
Manchester Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Simon Ashley has unveiled the Liberal Democrat team of candidates standing for Councillor in Manchester's 2010 local elections.
Cllr Ashley said:
"We will be hoping to gain seats across Manchester in the upcoming local elections, to add to the current 33-strong Lib Dem Group of Councillors. We provide the fresh alternative to an arrogant and stale Labour party."
"Everyone in Manchester knows that only the Lib Dems can beat Labour here. The Tories haven't won a ward in the City since 1992 and the Greens haven't got a single Councillor. In Manchester, a Green or Tory vote is a wasted vote and only helps Labour hold on."
Councillor Ashley added:
"Four of our Councillors, Rodney Isherwood, Tony Parkinson, Lynne Williams and Alec Cowan, are standing down. I want to put on record our thanks for their many years of service to the people of Manchester, and to the Liberal Democrat Party."
