Graham Shaw, John Leech MP and Lianne Williams have promise to reverse this decision if the Lib Dems run the Council
The closure of Ewing school came one step closer today as Labour's Town Hall bosses confirmed that they would press ahead with closure, despite an 11,000 name petition in opposition. The Lib Dem have argued against the closure from the start, and have done everything in their power to stop it happening. However, there is a Labour majority on the Council.
The Lib Dems have "called in" the decision, which means it will go back to the Children and Young Person's Scrutiny Committee. If the majority on that Committee support the closure, then there is no other Council procedures to go through, and it will become Council policy.
Lib Dem Education spokesperson Marc Ramsbottom said,
"There is not much point having a consultation if the Labour Party are going to ignore what is said to them. Closing Ewing reduces choice for Manchester children. It is the wrong decision."
Didsbury Councillor and Ewing Governor Graham Shaw added,
"The Lib Dems in Manchester will continue to do all they can to oppose this closure, and will reverse this decision if we have the power to in the next couple of year.
