Manchester Liberal Democrats Support Greater Investment in Alexandra Park
Liberal Democrats welcome the decision at the recent meeting of the Council's Executive to spend an extra £24,000 on Manchester's Alexandra Park, but say it's "too little, and too late".
Whalley Range Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant said:
"I am delighted that this money, which is to improve the area and has come from developers building flats, is to be spent in Alexandra Park - but it is a drop in the ocean. Labour's Town Hall bosses failed to invest in the park during the 80s and 90s and now the cost of restoration is around £6m. Every bit of money to be spent in this grade II listed historic park is welcome but is a long way short of my call for the council to identify up to £4m to ensure a successful Heritage Lottery Bid next year."
