Liberal Democrat Cllr Eakins is Supporting Northenden's Retail Outlets
Northenden Liberal Democrats have joined local residents in celebrating the return of the village Butcher this week, as local butcher Paul Turrell opened for business in the heart of Northenden Village.
Cllr Martin Eakins, who made a pledge to campaign for quality independent shops central to his election campaign, said:
"Paul and I have discussed the possibility of opening a branch in Northenden Village several times since I was elected. It almost happened a couple of months ago, but sadly the move fell through at the time. I'm delighted that he has now found a suitable venue, and has teamed up with the local grocers, Northern Fruits, right in the heart of the Village on Palatine Road."
Council surveys conducted in Northenden consistently rate the availability of quality independent shops as a key concern amongst residents, many of whom recall Northenden's commercial past where people would visit Northenden to shop in it's village centre.
Cllr Eakins added:
"This is fantastic news for Northenden - I know the community will be thrilled to see the return of the local butcher. Many elderly people who live alone don't want the packs of four chops or the 400g of mincemeat you get at the supermarkets - it's too much! They need someone who can serve them what they want, and Paul can now provide that service."
