Manchester's Labour run Council is about to adopt Lib Dem proposals to move the Library Theatre to the Theatre Royal Building. The suggestion was recently made by Didsbury Lib Dem Councillor Graham Shaw, although Levenshulme Councillor Keith Whitmore first raised the possibility in 1987.
Cllr Shaw said today,
"Of course the Liberal Democrats wholeheartedly support plans to use the historic Theatre Royal building as a home for the Library Theatre. Indeed, it was our idea."
Shadow Culture spokesperson John Commons added,
"This plan would both restore the historic Theatre Royal and provide the Library Theatre with a splendid new home at the heart of the city centre, close to restaurants and other leisure facilities. We strongly endorse the restoration of Manchester historic cultural fabric."
