Manchester Lib Dem Leader Simon Ashley today welcomed plans to relocate the National Football Museum to Urbis.
Cllr Ashley, who has been critical about the nearly £2million per year Council Tax subsidy for Urbis, met with Chief Executive Sir Howard Bernstein today, and received a promise that the Council's subsidy for Urbis would not increase because of the move.
Cllr Ashley said today,
"This is good news. After wasting millions of Council Tax payers money, it looks like the Council has finally found a sustainable use for Urbis. The relocation of the National Football Museum to Urbis will reinforce Manchester's reputation as a football mad city, and help sustain businesses at that end of City Centre."
Lib Dem Culture spokesperson John Commons added,
"This is a result for football fans and a result for Urbis. It has our full support."
