Rent decrease penalises those who transferred from Council Housing!

March 29, 2009 12:00 AM

At the meeting of the City Council Executive on Tuesday 24th March, Cllr Iain Donaldson condemned the failure of the Labour Government to issue a clear statement on its promised rents decrease for Council tenants, and for betraying those tenants who have switched to housing associations and companies under stock transfer.

Cllr Donaldson stated that "We welcome the fact that the executive member is seeking clarification over the recuperation of administration costs following the governments change of policy, but the bigger issue is for tenants involved in stock transfers who now find themselves worse off than if they had stayed with the City Council."

"Tennants were told that they would be no worse off following stock transfer than before it, and that their rents would not increase above the level set by the Council. Now the Labour Government;s actions have completely shattered that promise. "

"Associations and companies such as Southways and Willow Park are not to blame for this staggering breach of promise, tenants have been let down again by this failing Labour Government."
