Lib Dems Oppose Labour's Pointless Plans to Update Manchester's Coat of Arms
Manchester Liberal Democrats are opposing Labour's plans to redesign the Council's coat of arms, after 166 years of history. Creative Director Peter Saville has been asked to update Manchester's coat of arms as part of the Council's new "corporate identity."
Opposition Leader Councillor Simon Ashley said:
"I admire Peter Saville and his work - but Manchester has had a perfectly good Coat of Arms for 166 years. Labour should respect our City's heritage, instead of commissioning pointless rebranding exercises."
"No-one has ever contacted me asking the Council to spend money on this. Wasting Council Tax payers' cash on this during a recession cannot be justified."
