Manchester Liberal Democrats Supported Campaign to Recognise DC Stephen Oake
Manchester Liberal Democrat Crime and Disorder Spokesperson Jackie Pearcey has welcomed the posthumous award of the Queen's Gallantry Medal to DC Stephen Oake, who was murdered during a raid on a North Manchester house in 2003.
The Council has lobbied for a number of years for DC Oake's bravery to be recognised following a joint Liberal Democrat / Labour motion proposed by Lib Dem Leader Simon Ashley and Crumpsall Labour Councillor Con Keegan.
Jackie Pearcey said:
"DC Oake died bravely, defending his colleagues. His bravery saved lives that day. I have never understood why the Government seemed unable to recognise his actions. Too often the word "hero" is overused, but DC Oake is a genuine hero. This award is five years late, but it is a very welcome recognition."
