Simon Ashley Has Consistently Called for Effective Action Against Crime, Not Just Tough Talk
Manchester Liberal Democrat Leader Simon Ashley has welcomed a massive reduction in the number of ASBOs applied for across Manchester. Since 2005, the number of ASBOs applied for has fallen from 554 to 165, a 70% drop.
Cllr Ashley said:
"Council Officers have confirmed to me that the reason fewer ASBOs are being sought is that other methods, including Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, Parenting Orders and Pre-Asbo interviews, are cheaper and more effective in changing behaviour."
Crime and Disorder spokesperson Cllr Jackie Pearcey added:
"I am glad that finally Labour have listened to what the Liberal Democrats in Manchester have been saying since March 2005, (see Press Release below). ASBOs should be an option, but not the only one. It is better to be effective than to sound tough!"
