John Leech MP Supports Initiatives to Improve Our Road Safety

John Leech MP is supporting the launch of the World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims, to be held on the third Sunday of November each year.

"I am glad that the government has recognised that the loss of lives on the road and the suffering of bereaved and injured road crash victims deserve much greater recognition than there already is," John Leech MP said.

"Let us use this official recognition as a means of showing compassion and care to the millions of UK road crash victims, and addressing road danger."

End....

Note to editors:

1. This special Day was launched in 1993 by UK road victim charity RoadPeace and promoted by them nationally and internationally until it was adopted by the United Nations on 26th October 2005 "as the appropriate acknowledgement for victims of road traffic crashes and their families".

2. John Leech MP was named Parliamentarian of the Year by road safety charity, Brake, earlier this year.

3. John Leech MP is a member of the All Party Road Safety Group.

4. He has also been instrumental in promoting Road Safety Week in conjunction with Brake, particularly as the North West of England is one of the worst regions for road traffic accident deaths for young drivers and passengers.
