MP for Manchester Withington, John Leech, put Gordon Brown on the spot at this week's Prime Minister's Question Time when he raised the case of his constituent Adela Mahoro Mugabo.
John Leech's constituent, Adela Mahoro Mugabo, who is a Rwandan national, is threatened with deportation. However, in her native Rwanda, her husband was murdered and she was tortured and raped, leaving her HIV+. She is now dependent on a specialist mix of the antiviral drugs available in the UK for quality of life.
John Leech MP said:
"Deportation of Adela would be a human rights atrocity. It simply cannot be allowed. But despite a petition of over a thousand signatures, the immigration authorities have not listened. I have had no choice but go to the Prime Minister."
"I hope that raising the issue so publicly will allow Adela to stay."
