"Who on earth put Ellesmere Road in band E whilst Chandos Road and Egerton Road North are in band D despite the fact that they are all houses built at the same time, in the same style and in the same area?", says Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant.
Residents on Ellesmere Road in Chorlton are shocked to discover that their property is in council tax band E whilst the adjacent properties in Chandos Road are band D. The residents in these roads sought conservation area status because the houses share style and character. They were built around the same time with similar design. One resident has already successfully appealed and been rebanded. As soon as local Liberal Democrat councillor John Grant heard about this anomaly he called on the valuation officer to review the situation.
Whalley Range Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant said:
"This is a ridiculous situation. I am not surprised that there are those in the industry who talk about "second gear valuations" as quite literally officers stayed in their cars and drove past in second gear allocating bands."
"I hope that the council will realise they have made a mistake and reband those in Ellesmere Road into band D just like those in Chandos Road and Egerton Road North. I wonder if there are any other anomalies like this in the city?"
