Gordon Brown Must Keep Jobs Promise to Manchester
Manchester Liberal Democrats have given their reaction to reports that the Manchester Council Leader Richard Leese met with Gordon Brown to discuss the promised Manchester Casino.
Opposition Leader Councillor Simon Ashley said:
"Despite what Cllr Leese said after Gordon Brown came into office as Prime Minister, it looks like the Casino is "dead in the water". That means we have wasted the £240,000 it cost to bid."
Cllr Ashley added:
"I have always said that if Gordon Brown has a moral objection to a super casino, he also has a moral obligation to replace the 3000 jobs and £265million of investment the Casino will bring. The Council must keep its nerve, keep its threat of legal action on the table, and ask Gordon Brown for a written guarantee the investment and jobs he has now stopped because of his actions."
