John Leech MP Wins the "National Campaigner" Award from Road Safety Charity Brake
Liberal Democrat MP for Manchester Withington, John Leech, is celebrating after being named Parliamentarian of the Year by road safety charity, Brake. John, the Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson, has campaigned tirelessly on the topic of road safety, most notably proposing a Bill in Parliament to introduce a default 20mph speed limit on all lit roads in built-up areas.
John Leech MP, a member of the All Party Road Safety Group, has also been instrumental in promoting Road Safety Week in conjunction with Brake, particularly as the North West of England is one of the worst regions for road traffic accident deaths for young drivers and passengers.
It is this impressive record of action which has earned John Leech MP the title of Parliamentarian of the Year.
John Leech MP said:
"I am delighted to receive this award. Road safety is often overshadowed by safety concerns on other forms of transport but consistently year on year more people die or are seriously injured on our roads. This is unlikely to go away unless politicians take action in Parliament."
