Campaigner Bernadette Newing has been Awarded the MBE in the New Year Honours List
Community Campaigner and former Councillor Bernadette Newing has been awarded the MBE in the New Year's Honours List. Bernadette, who served as a Liberal Democrat Councillor in Gorton 2004-2006, was awarded the MBE for her services to the community in Gorton and Abbey Hey.
Bernadette said:
"I am thrilled and honoured to receive this award. This is a great year for me, my 50th as well as my silver wedding anniversary and receiving an MBE, it's fantastic. I wouldn't have been able to do all this without the support of my family and friends here in Gorton and Abbey Hey."
Manchester Lib Dem Leader Councillor Simon Ashley said:
"I am made-up for Bernadette, who really deserves this award after many years of hard work for people in Abbey Hey. This is just reward for all her time and effort."
