Cllr Ramsbottom Urges Government to Reinstate Manchester's Missing £20 Million
Manchester Lib Dem Finance spokesperson Marc Ramsbottom has criticised a government decision that will see Manchester lose £20 million over the next three years. In a report to December's Executive Committee, the City Treasurer wrote that Manchester will lose £10.299m in 2008/9, £6.333m in 2009/10 and £3.497m in 2010/11. This represents a total loss of funding of £20.129m over the next three years.
City Centre Cllr Ramsbottom said:
"The Labour government should be ashamed of itself. Manchester is the 4th most deprived local authority in the country. The Government accept we are entitled to this money. So why is Manchester subsidising better-off areas to the tune of £20 million over the next three years?"
