Regeneration Hitch on Eccleshall Street, East Manchester (from Eyewitness in Manchester, Aidan O'Rourke)

Manchester Lib Dem Finance spokesperson Marc Ramsbottom has welcomed an apology from Council Leader Richard Leese and Deputy Leader Jim Battle over the way the Council has treated residents in the Eccleshall Street area of East Manchester.

Both Cllr Leese and Cllr Battle also sit on the Board of New East Manchester. Following years of broken promises and let-down, Labour's Town Hall Bosses now admit that are shelving proposed plans to regenerate the area.

Cllr Ramsbottom commented, following December's meeting of the Council's top-level Executive Committee:

"Eighty-six households are particularly affected by this shambles. Local people are fuming about how they have been treated by the Council and New East Manchester. I hope the Council will now offer local residents reasonable packages of support and give this issue the urgency it needs."
