Manchester Takes Steps Towards Supporting Royal British Legion's Covenant Campaign, following Lib Dem Proposal
Manchester City Council today agreed in principle to support the Royal British Legion's "Honour the Covenant" campaign following a proposal from Lib Dem Councillor Iain Donaldson.
Council Leader Richard Leese promised that Officers will bring a report to January's Council Executive Committee meeting, based on Cllr Donaldson's proposal (see below).
Cllr Donaldson said today:
"I am delighted that the Council have agreed to support this campaign. Our service people deserve the full support of the nation for the sacrifices they make. It is only right that the City of Manchester should endorse the Royal British Legion's campaign."

Furthermore, when people sign up to join the Armed Services they show that they are prepared to put their life on the line for their country. In return they should be certain that they and their family will be looked after appropriately.
Council believes that recognition in medals and commendations does not meet the needs and care of many of our servicemen and women, past and present, and supports the 'Honour the Covenant' campaign of the Royal British Legion.
Council calls upon her Majesty's Government to honour its life-long duty of care to those making a unique commitment to their country by realising in full the demands laid out by the Royal British Legion in their 'Honour the Covenant' Campaign.
