Homes Handover May Bring Desperately-Needed Renovations.

Up to 6,000 homes in South Manchester could finally receive much-needed renovations following their handover this week to Southway Housing Trust by the City Council. The transfer follows over 30 years of failure by Manchester's Labour Administration to provide decent housing for the people of South Manchester, and the programme of work should see all Southway tenants receiving major improvements to their homes within two years.

Tenants expressed no confidence in the Labour Council and voted to transfer homes in Burnage, Chorlton Park, Didsbury East and West, Old Moat and Withington to Southway Housing Trust.

Cllr Iain Donaldson, Shadow Executive Member with responsibility for Housing, and Burnage Ward Councillor stated:

"We wish the tenants and staff of Southway every success in this new venture, but we will be closely monitoring the outcomes."

"Promises have been made about the levels of service that local people can expect, and we will be keeping a close eye on things to ensure that those promises are kept."
