Councillor Simon Ashley Endorses Court Action if Government Review Rejects East Manchester Jobs
Reports in today's Manchester Evening News suggest that the Council might take the Government to court if the Manchester Casino bid is de-coupled from proposals for 16 smaller Casinos. Manchester Lib Dem Group Leader Cllr Simon Ashley has given his reaction.
Cllr Ashley said:
"I know the Council would rather not do this, but it is about whether or not Manchester is taken seriously by Government and Westminster. Sir Howard and I discussed this possibility several months ago, and he has flagged it up in meetings he has had with all the main political parties in Westminster. He certainly raised it with Don Foster MP when we lobbied him last month."
Cllr Ashley continued:
"Sir Howard knows he has my full support on this issue. The stakes are high, but so are the rewards. £265million of private investment and 3,000 new jobs are worth fighting for. "
