Park Still in the Dark after Council Delay

Councillor John Grant is Campaigning to Improve Manley Park

"The play area in Manley Park which should be floodlight is still in partial darkness 7 months after the problems with the lights were reported to the council", says Whalley Range Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant.

Manley Park has a floodlit all-weather play area suitable for football, basketball and cricket. In March this year the council was told that several of the lights needed to replaced and realigned. On March 26th in an e-mail a council officer said:

"you will be pleased to hear that both the repairs and realignment of the lighting has been ordered and is to be undertaken by AMEY in the next few days".

Today, 7 months on, 3 bulbs still need to be replaced and the lights need to be properly aligned to light the whole area!

Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant said:

"Amey hold the contract for the maintenance of the new street lights in Manchester along with lights in our parks. The failure of Labour's town hall bosses to get Amey to replace and realign these in 7 months is a sign of a very poor service. If it's as poor as this now what will it be like throughout the rest of the 25 years of the PFI contract?"

He concluded:

"We are desperately short of facilities for young people in our area. We want to see this area used for football coaching but that's not going to happen if the lights are no good. Where is the council's commitment to young people?"
