Manchester Lib Dems Call for Karen Reissmann's Reinstatement
Manchester Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr Simon Ashley has called for sacked nursed Karen Reissmann to be reinstated. Karen was sacked last week by Manchester Mental Health Trust, according to her union, Unison, on four grounds.
Firstly that, when she was interviewed in December 2006 criticising the transfer of NHS work to the voluntary sector, she brought the Trust into disrepute. Secondly, for telling people that she was suspended and for what reason. Thirdly, for protesting her innocence. Fourthly, for allowing the press to print information, some misleading, about her case. The Union are appealing the case.
Cllr Simon Ashley said today:
"When there are waiting lists to be sectioned and Manchester has the 4th worst performing Mental Health Trust in the country, why are senior NHS managers spending so much time trying to sack someone whose crime is expressing the opinion of herself and her members? Karen is caring nurse whose patients speak highly of her."
Cllr Ashley added:
"The Trust have made a mountain out of this mole hill. The Trust ought to reinstate Karen Reissmann, end this dispute and concentrate on trying to improve services for Manchester people."
