Gordon Brown Must Replace the Investment Package He Withdrew from Manchester
Lib Dem Spokesperson for Culture, Media and Sport Don Foster MP has joined Manchester Withington MP John Leech and Manchester Lib Dem Leader Cllr Simon Ashley to demand that the Prime Minister guarantees regeneration money to Manchester if his decision prevents Manchester's Super Casino going ahead.
Don Foster MP said:
"When Blackpool lost out to Manchester they were immediately promised regeneration money. Whatever view people may have on the Manchester Super Casino, significant sums were used to prepare the bid Manchester won. If the Prime Minister now changes the rules, Manchester should be compensated and its regeneration needs supported."
John Leech MP added:
"I, like many, have had reservations about the principle of a Super Casino from day one, but I hope that the Prime Minister comes up with the regeneration money Manchester so desperately needs."
Lib Dem leader Simon Ashley commented:
"If Gordon Brown has a moral objection to a Super Casino, he also has a moral obligation to fund an alternative regeneration package."
