Manchester Lib Dems Condemn Post Office Queues

April 26, 2007 12:00 AM

Lib Dem MP Nick Clegg was in Manchester today to support a campaign to save the city's post offices. The Lib Dem Home Affairs Spokesperson joined local campaigners today outside Spring Gardens Post Office in Manchester city centre to collect signatures for a petition protesting at the planned closure of up to 2,500 post offices across the country.

Over 20 post offices have already closed in Manchester in the past few years, but added pressure on the remaining post office network.

City Centre Lib Dem Councillor Marc Ramsbottom has also slammed Post Office bosses for the long queues at its city centre post offices.

He says that customers face long queues, and it is time that Post Office management did something about it:

"I wrote to the Post Office to complain about how long people have to queue to get served. Many people who nip out to the post office in their lunch hour just give up after queuing because it takes so long."

Post Office bosses replied to Cllr Ramsbottom complaint and said they would pass it on to local managers to investigate, but since then he has heard nothing.

He added "Post Office bosses are to blame because they have closed 2 city centre post offices in the past few years, and now they cannot cope with the number of customers."
