Burnage Cllr Iain Donaldson Uncovered Labour's Library Let-Down
An inspection of Manchester's Libraries by the Audit Commission has shown that the City is failing to meet national targets for opening hours, following cuts in the opening times by Manchester's Labour Administration.
The failure is outlined in the draft business plan for Libraries, which was considered by the Community Regeneration Scrutiny Committee today, which clearly states that some 70 extra hours opening a week are required to meet targets.
Liberal Democrat Committee Spokesperson, Cllr Iain Donaldson, said:
"Libraries are a key part of our local communities and are an invaluable service to local residents. The Liberal Democrat budget gives local Councillors the ability to reverse the cuts in the Library service every year."
"Labour Councillors must take responsibility for not meeting these targets. They must now address their failure and increase the opening hours of Manchester's Libraries."
