Nearly 100 murders have been committed by offenders on probation in the last two years, new Home Office figures have shown.
Commenting on the Offender Management Caseload statistics published today, Manchester Liberal Democrat's Crime and Disorder Spokesperson Councillor Jackie Pearcey said:
"Repeat crime will be the lasting legacy of this Government's mismanagement of the criminal justice system."
"Overcrowded prisons, a demoralised probation service and irrational automatic early release schemes have come together to create this disastrous situation."
"That so much repeat crime is murder makes the Government's complacency an outrage."
Cllr Pearcey concluded:
"How can this Government possibly claim it is tough on law and order with its lamentable record after 10 years?"
