John Leech MP and Manchester Withington Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign to tackle the problem of abandoned properties in South Manchester. Figures from the Halifax Building Society show that 3% of residential properties in the Manchester Withington Constituency, which covers Burnage, Chorlton, Didsbury, Withington and parts of Fallowfield, are estimated to be empty at the moment. At the same time thousands of families are waiting to be rehoused in South Manchester.
John Leech MP said:
"We need the help of people in South Manchester to identify empty properties which may be attracting crime vandalism or antisocial behaviour. Please tell us if you know of an abandoned home in the area."
"We can then report these properties to the council so that they can be dealt with appropriately, either by being secured, or refurbished and released for people who desperately need housing in the area."
