John Leech, Lib Dem MP for Manchester Withington and Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson, has revealed the results of a survey he has carried out of rail users in Manchester. A resounding 90% back John Leech in his call for the Government to come up with the cash to bring Metrolink to South Manchester.
"People are telling us that the rail network is in disarray" said John Leech MP. "This is a major concern. People also feel that trains are infrequent, stations often feel unsafe, and that under Labour local services have become far too expensive. Yet the Government still won't provide the cash to expand the Metrolink system."
"Its no wonder people are using their cars when they are forced to by an unreliable and expensive railway system. Expanding the light rail network would provide quicker and easier public transport and would take cars off the roads. I will not let up until the Government give us the funding they promised to extend the Metrolink to South Manchester."
The survey was carried out with the help of Councillors Tony Parkinson, Rod Isherwood and Simon Wheale.
