John Leech MP and Lib Dem campaigner Tina Maache have joined forces with local people to oppose plans for a huge mobile phone mast on Whitchurch Road.
When residents alerted John Leech to Vodaphone's plans, he and Tina went door to door to collect signatures for a petition opposing the mast. Over 125 local people signed up straight away.
Tina said:
"People were appalled that Vodafone want to site a mast in the middle of such a highly residential area. There must be somewhere else they could put it - away from people's homes and gardens."
Withington MP John Leech said:
"I have sent the petition to Vodafone to show them the extent of local public opposition to their plans. I have also sent a copy of the petition to the Planning Department of the Council, together with a letter of objection."
The Planning Department have now said that they too will oppose Vodafone if they formally apply for planning permission for a mast here.
"We hope that the combined action of local people and the local Lib Dems will make Vodafone change their minds about planning for a phone mast in this area, " concluded Tina Maache.
