Last Wednesday Manchester Withington Liberal Democrat MP John Leech secured an adjournment debate in the House of Commons on Transport issues in South Manchester.
John is concerned that the government are not allowing the Manchester Passenger Transport Authority to take the steps necessary to improve South Manchester's infrastructure, such as re-regulating the bus service and funding Metrolink.
He said:
"Tighter regulatory control of bus and more money to fund Metrolink WILL help to tackle congestion in my constituency because it will provide the public transport network that people want and need. However what the Government must also accept is that unless steps are taken to deal with the problem of overdevelopment and its effect on congestion, the problem will remain."
