Planning Applications Online at last!

January 16, 2006 12:00 AM

Whalley Range Lib Dem Councillor John Grant is delighted that plans for any new development in the city can now be viewed on-line.

December 1st saw the first plans appearing on the council's website at http://www.manchester.gov.uk/planning/publicaccess/ .This means that Manchester residents should be able to see planning applications on the internet in their own home or a local library. No longer will they have to go into the town hall during the working day.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Simon Wheale, Chair of the council's important Physical Environment Scrutiny Committee said:

"We have been following the progress of this work very carefully. We are delighted that the weekly list of planning applications with the associated documents and drawings can now be viewed on the internet. We hope this will allow local people to engage more in the process and feel that they have a real say in what happens in their area. We know that with any new development there may be teething problems and would certainly want to hear from anyone who experiences difficulties in accessing plans."

Lib Dem Councillor for Whalley Range and member of the council's Planning Committee John Grant said:

"It is 2 years since I first asked about progress on this facility in full council so am delighted to see it on-line. This is just what people in my area have said they want. It was never easy to get to the town hall and the planning department was only open during the working day. Now local people can access and view the drawings at a time convenient to them. As a member of the council's Planning Committee this will make such a difference because I will not have to bother the staff in the town hall to see plans."
