Manchester Withington Liberal Democrat MP John Leech is supporting moves in parliament to set up an Inquiry into why Britain went to war with Iraq in March 2003.
John is one of 87 MPs from all the major parties in Parliament to sign EDM 1088 which calls for 7 Privy Counsellors to "review the way in which the responsibilities of Government were discharged in relation to Iraq and all matters relevant thereto, in the period leading up to military action in that country in March 2003 and in its aftermath."
John Leech MP said today:
"I am supporting these moves in parliament because the House of Commons is entitled to hold ministers to account for the decision to go to war and the failure to have proper plans for its aftermath."
Foreign Affairs spokesperson Sir Menzies Campbell added:
"The financial, military and diplomatic consequences for the United Kingdom have been immense. So far we have had to rely on a variety of leaked documents but parliament and the public have the right to a full account of the workings of government both before and after the decision to invade."

EDM 1088 reads:
That this House believes that there should be a select committee of seven honourable Members, being members of Her Majesty's Privy Council, to review the way in which the responsibilities of Government were discharged in relation to Iraq and all matters relevant thereto, in the period leading up to military action in that country in March 2003 and in its aftermath.
